Around 1985 I was driving south thru Islamorada when I saw Mr. Apte standing next to an old station wagon in the parking lot of the original “World Wide Sportman” before they had opened for the day. I drove in, got out and approached him and noticed he had a fly reel in pieces spread across the hood of the car. He looked at me and was about to ask me what I wanted when I said “Mr. Apte, would you be good enough to sign my copy of your book, Fishing in the Florida Keys. Why would you want my signature..? Well… I cant find Lefty Kreh anywhere so I figured you were the next best thing. He looked at me, laughed and signed my book.. True story..!
